Declaration of a Humanitarian Emergency in Sudan

Driven by our moral and humanitarian responsibility, Rahma Worldwide declares a state of extreme humanitarian emergency in Sudan. This declaration is based on verified field reports from our teams and partners, as well as independent assessments confirming a catastrophic deterioration in living conditions and an unprecedented rise in life-saving needs.

Data from North Darfur and the Nuba Mountains indicate that some communities have reached famine conditions (IPC Phase 5), while millions of individuals are classified under Phase 4 (emergency food insecurity). This escalation poses an immediate and existential threat to civilians, especially children and women, who are most at risk.

The crisis is compounded by a widespread cholera outbreak and a concerning increase in related deaths amid the near-total collapse of healthcare services and severe shortages of clean drinking water. The situation is further exacerbated by severe restrictions on humanitarian access and repeated attacks, particularly around the city of El Fasher, in addition to reports of grave violations that underscore the urgent need to protect civilians and ensure safe humanitarian access.

In light of these developments, and in alignment with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) appeal for $20.9 million in urgent funding, Rahma Worldwide is intensifying its emergency operations in Sudan. During the past month alone, we successfully deployed an exploratory medical mission, distributed over 9,000 food and hygiene baskets, and provided infant formula to vulnerable families.

Our teams are currently expanding their response to include:

Emergency and therapeutic food aid for children, Cholera prevention supplies, support for safe water access, priority is being given to the most affected displacement centers.

From this platform, Rahma Worldwide calls upon all our donors and partners to join us by:

Providing flexible and urgent funding to prevent famine, contain the cholera outbreak, and support health and water services.

Urging all stakeholders to facilitate safe and sustained humanitarian access, protect civilians, and ensure the passage of aid and humanitarian personnel through all border crossings, including the Adré corridor via Chad.
