11 Years have passed since the crisis in Syria Began. However, the Syrian people seem to have no end to the decade-long unrest and instability. About 13 million people have lost their livelihood since the crisis began. Reports suggest that nearly 6.6 million have sought refuge in neighboring countries. Humanitarian organizations strive to make all the efforts they could to sponsor an orphan and provide them with the necessities for survival. As the crisis steps into its twelfth year, the Syria crisis in numbers will be detailed.
How bad is the situation in Syria and how much worse has it become?
Numbers show the severity of the Syria crisis better than any long articles. Hence, here are some statistics that will paint a clear picture of what the Syrian are going through:
- UNICEF has noted that around 6.1 million children need assistance
- An estimated 80% of the total population, a staggering 14.6 million, is in need of humanitarian aid. Among these, 12 million are in extreme need.
- 12.4 million people do not have sufficient food even to satiate their dietary needs.
- 6.7 million Syrians are internally displaced
What do they have to face?
Many people move out of their homes to new locations, disturbing them mentally and depriving them of all their basic needs. This agony only keeps increasing as they get displaced multiple times. Therefore, they are constantly removed from all essential facilities. This displacement has psychologically affected many people in the country.
Civilians suffering extend beyond just missile attacks and destruction of cities like Raqqa, Aleppo, and Idlib. More than 80% of the population is now below the international poverty line. To explain how rapid this gain is, this number was lower than 10% before 2011.
Rahma Worldwide partnered with the Islamic Movement 1948 in Palestine to lay the foundation stone for the housing project in Idlib. This plan’s objective is to build 100 housing units with two rooms, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a green area.
