As many as 2.8 million Syrians would have a difficult time staying warm. The country has already seen three endless cold waves with temperatures plummeting below zero degrees celsius. Rahma Worldwide, one of the top non profit organizations in the US, is currently responding on the ground in Gaza since the cold waves in Syria and Lebanon also affected Gaza and the rest of the Middle East.
Our team distributed mattresses and blankets for our fellow people in Gaza to shield themselves against harsh weather. All our hearts go out to the people in Syria suffering three cold waves within a week.
What’s the ground status?
Over three million people have been displaced due to the conflict in Syria. They are said to have moved from home to home at least 25 times. Around 80% of the displaced people are women and children who live in congested camps and unfinished buildings. Hence, they lack the necessary sanitary facilities that threaten their well-being.
The cold weather in Syria is said to decrease to -5 degrees Celsius at night. To add to the suffering of the people residing in inadequate shelters, heavy rain, frost, and snowfall are also expected.
Any relief measure is slowed down due to the prevailing conflict. In addition, the pandemic has also posed some obstacles to many nonprofit organizations around the world.
A challenge to NGOs
NGOs are facing several impediments to scaling up the relief measures in this situation. With the challenges ahead of us, Rahma Worldwide is asking for your help to provide the Syrians with basic winter necessities. As a group, we shall achieve what we set out to do. We are one of the best nonprofits located in Michigan striving to make the world a better place for everyone.
