We are Happy to Announce the Launching of:
2nd Annual Athan Competition 2021:
What is Athan?
“Athan”أذان” is the Islamic call to prayer that is recited by a male individual before each of the 5 daily prayers, the person reciting it is usually called “The Muathen”المؤذن”(meaning the Informer). The root of the word is ʾadhina أَذِنَ meaning “to listen, to hear, be informed about”. Another derivative of this word is ʾudhun (أُذُن), meaning “ear”.
Traditionally called out five times a day, a whole day long in the event of religious holidays (Eid Al Fitr and Adha), originally from a minaret of a mosque, now through speakers of mosques and Islamic Centers summoning Muslims or obligatory prayer. The main purpose behind the multiple loud pronouncements of adhan in every mosque is to make available to everyone an easily intelligible summary of Islamic belief. In modern times, loudspeakers have been installed on minarets for this purpose.
